MANS strongly condemns exceeding of official authority and excessive use of force by police officers who today were involved in the action of protest stopping in front of the Parliament of Montenegro.

The right to protest and disagreement with the Government’s doing is a right that must not be denied to any individual or organization, and especially can not be punished in a way that it was done in today’s actions of the Police Administration.

MANS is particularly concerned by the fact that the journalists who were present during the action and reported about it, brutally were prevented from doing their job and timely inform the public about police work and events in front of the Montenegrin Parliament.

We expect that the Minister of Police Rasko Konjevic and Police Director Slavko Stojanovic provide an answers to Montenegrin public as soon as possible on the exceeding of physical force and in details examine the actions of each police officer and their seniors who took part in today’s action of protest stopping protest.

The application of physical force and prevention of  journalists from doing their job is in complete contradiction with European values that official Podgorica at least declaratively supports and this practice belongs to times that Montenegro has to put behind itself.
