Prime Minister Dritan Abazović expressed his suspicions that MANS does not want the assets of the Kavač and Škaljari clans to be confiscated because we are opposing the adoption of a selective law on confiscation of assets that has been harshly criticized by numerous experts.
The fact that the Government persistently insists on the adoption of a draft law that they know is bad and selective, along with Abazović’s expressed nervousness, leads to the conclusion that the intention is to absolve some tycoons whose business the Prime Minister helps and promotes.
The question also arises as to why the law should be improved in half a year, how the Prime Minister tries to relativize the shortcomings of the Government’s proposal, and for selected criminals and tycoons to use numerous loopholes in the law until then.
The question arises as to why the Prime Minister never raised suspicions towards his closest associates who were arrested for organized crime, as well as towards those who suggested them to him. Instead, he accuses MANS of uncovering the biggest cases in this country, which is why we were subjected to brutal persecution by the previous regime.
There is no pressure from any government that will make us give up the fight for justice and stop opposing the adoption of a selective law that would absolve all those who acquired enormous illicit wealth during the 90s.
We believe that judges elected by Vesna Medenica should not decide in cases of confiscation of assets of criminals, and we request the establishing of a special court with judges whose property and ties to organized crime will be subjected to detailed scrutiny.
That is why we call on the MPs not to vote for the selective law proposed by the Government, despite the pressures of the outgoing Prime Minister, but to keep the years-long promises that all illegally acquired assets will be confiscated and returned to the state budget.
