(Podgorica, 21 April 2012) – Tomorrow’s protests and public actions in more than half of Montenegro’s municipalities will see citizens, workers, students and NGOs suggesting to the Government of Montenegro that it must be held accountable and resign.
The planned protests in Ulcinj will be held in Pristan, at the Small Beach and will be organized by workers and NGOs. Meanwhile, Bijelo Polje’s workers will organize a protest in the main city square.
NGOs, students and workers will tomorrow organize actions in the main streets and city squares of Berane, Pljevalja, Žabljak, Nikšić, Bar, Cetinje i Danilovgrad, as well as in front of the entrance to Kotor’s old town (at the beginning of the boardwalk), across from Hotel Igalo in Herceg Novi and in five locations across Podgorica (the main square, the monument to Saint Peter of Cetinje near the University, the Moscow-Pedestrian bridge, the small market and Gintaš. In case of rain the locations at the pedestrian bridge and the small market will be replaced by alternatives.
The organization and support for these public actions were provided by some 40 NGOs including, ANIMA from Kotor, Ozon and Nora from Niksic, the House of Human Rights in Herceg Novi, the Mogul Coalition of NGOs from Ulcinj, and a network of 25 NGOs from the north of the country, as well as organizations from Podgorica including the Women’s Safe House, Stop Discrimination, the Volunteer Initiative of Podgorica, Green Home and the Association of Displaced Roma, Egyptians and Ashkalia.
We will call citizens to join these public demonstrations and tell the government why it needs to leave.
