The latest European Commission report on Montenegro’s progress in the EU integration process noted a serious lack of results in the fight against corruption and invited Montenegro to urgently provide results in this area. That is best seen in the case of corruption in privatization and bankruptcy, which were not a serious matter so far for the police and prosecution in Montenegro. Moreover, Montenegro is the only country in the region that did not deal with this aspect of corruption, contrary to other countries that have processed own bankruptcy mafia, prosecuted those who got rich on the suffering of workers and confiscated such illegally acquired assets.
In a country where almost entire north is into bankruptcy, with ruined factories destroyed through process of privatization and bankruptcy, there is no serious action against persons responsible for such a state. At the same time, bankruptcy judges and trustees have sold off assets of Montenegrin workers in the north for nothing, and for themselves took tens of thousands of euros while in front of their eyes sold factories collapsed and turned into dumps.
Rights of workers in the north in the last two decades are constantly violated, and for a large number of workers who used to be the engine of development of Montenegro, earnings and claims until today have not been paid, and those people were brought to poverty without a possibility to provide any kind of future for their children. At the same time, just one small group of workers have been favored, close to the union which is under the control of the Montenegrin regime and ho could exercise their rights, while majority of workers only have left a possibility to get involved in agriculture in order to ensure that they are not hungry at least.
During that period, the politicians who came to the north of Montenegro have done nothing in order workers’ rights to be respected and to discover those responsible for destruction of our economy. Instead, they tried to divide people in the north based on ethic and religious grounds, in order to get votes in the easier way, and to prevent those citizens to request their own money and to detect and punish those responsible for the collapse of their companies. To the citizens they provided an empty promises and tried to get votes, and because of that until today no person have been punished for destruction of any factory or because it is sold next to nothing, and workers ended up on the street.
Most of young people in the north do not remember how perspective at one point these cities were, nor they remember that in the period before the destruction of the factories in the north of Montenegro were not unemployed. Instead, today they have a huge unemployment rate and they do not have any perspective to continue life in their cities.
Therefore, the NGO’s bankruptcies in cooperation with MANS in the following days, in all municipalities in the north will help to all citizens to get information needed relating to their companies, and also to report to the police and prosecution cases of corruption or bankruptcy of their companies which were destroyed. As well, we will help to the citizens in the process of requesting from the Parliament to revise the privatization or bankruptcy of the companies, and additionally to determine the responsibility of those who led to such a situation.
Beside legal assistance the citizens will be able on the squares to see photos of the factories in the north as a reminder of how they are privatized and what is left of once strong Montenegrin economy in the north.
Events will be organized at the cities’ main squares in the following terms
