Agency for Prevention of Corruption held a working session with NGO representatives today. The session was dedicated to the implementation of the Law on Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns, of which the Agency is in charge.
Apart from the general talk, heard for the umpteenth time, the director and the representative of the agency revealed nothing new on its plan to ensure that all the state and local bodies perform punctual, reliable and thorough statements of account and mileage logs, with the aim to identify and prevent misuse of public funds for electoral campaigns.
In addition, instead of mere demagoguery and empty talks, we were expecting to finally get some information on when the agency would start making decisions with regard to the NGOs’ complaints concerning inadequate statements of accounts and mileage logs published by institutions. Moreover, we wanted to know when the agency would start processing all those responsible persons, within the institutions, who had violated the Law on Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns.
MANS expresses its readiness to fully cooperate with the Agency for Prevention of Corruption, as well as other institutions, as long as their intention is to ensure the full adherence to the law, transparent work of institutions and accountability of those who act contrary to law, i.e. to make better conditions for free and fair elections. At the same time, we refuse to be an “accolade” to institutions and individuals who wish to cover up illegal actions of institutions and state officials, as well as their efforts to affect the citizens’ free will to vote whomever they choose.
