On the occasion of the latest in a series of attacks against Montenegrin media, MANS strongly condemns the threats to personal security of a journalist and director of television “Vijesti”, Marijana Bojanic that in the last 24 hours have been the subject of serious threats on the social networks Facebook and Twitter.
Particularly is worrying the fact that the threats to Bojanic are addressed largely because of her reaction to the arrests and beatings of journalists, that were natural reaction of her because Marianne herself is a journalist, but also and a need in order to draw public attention to this problem.
We believe that the overall situation in the country can not give to anyone the right to endanger the safety of journalists who often because of their work, become the target of those who think differently.
Therefore, it is absolutely essential that these attacks, but also and other attacks that happened in the last few days on the media in Montenegro are prosecuted to the end, and their perpetrators and sanctions that must endure, become an example and warning to all others who take in their hands the right to suppress the freedom of expression and intimidate and threaten journalists.
MANS from the police and the prosecution expects to take, as soon as possible, all measures under their jurisdiction in order these persons to be prosecuted and exemplary punishment.
Otherwise, the message is sent that the journalist’s life in Montenegro is “commodity”, and that verbal and physical threats can go unpunished.
